Vegetarians are sprouting up all over, and many want to meet other vegetarians. Plant eaters are now discovering cyberspace, that place between yhou and whomever you communicate with via telecommunications. To participate, all you need is a computer, a modem, a telephone line, and the appropriate software.
There are abundant resources available online for vegetarians. The Vegetarian Resource Group has produced an 8-page handout which tells you how to get started. Included is information about America Online, CompuServe, Prodigy, the Internet, electronic Mail, Bulletin Board Systems, and online etiquette.
For example, much of America Online's vegetarian activity is centered in the Cooking Club's Vegetarian Online area. To get there, use AOL keyword: VEGAN. There is a weekly live chat for vegetarians in the Cooking Club Kitchen conference room on Wednesday's at 9:00 P.M. eastern time.
On the World Wide Web, test your knowledge of vegetarianism by playing the Vegetarian Game. Answer a challenging set of multiple choice questions, and see if you can earn the title Grand Master of Vegetarianism. Learn about vegetarian nutrition, find new recipes, check out the online catalog, or leave your comments in the chat room. All these can be accessed from The Vegetarian Resource Group Home Page.
To obtain a copy of Online Resources for Vegetarians, send $3 to The Vegetarian Resource Group, P.O. Box 1463, Baltimore, MD 21203. Or you can obtain the latest version HERE.
The Vegetarian Resource Group is a non-profit group which educates the public about vegetarianism. For more information send two first class stamps to VRG, P.O. Box 1463, Baltimore, MD 21203. Materials are also available at: http://vrg.org
