The dinner will be held on Monday, October 19th, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. at Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill, 3906 Bell St. off 39th St. near the University of Kansas Medical Center, about 3 miles from the Convention Center.
You will have the opportunity to mingle with registered dietitians and others interested in vegetarian diets. VRG Co-Directors Debra Wasserman and Charles Stahler will be there, along with VRG's Foodservice Advisor Nancy Berkoff, R.D., Ed.D., and Julie Covington, M.S., R.D., chair of the ADA Vegetarian Practice Group. 2) Registered Dietitian
VRG is searching for an R.D. very knowledgeable about vegetarian diets with a strong science background to research and write articles/books; answer media, consumer, and professional questions; and liaison with other groups. Research/Customer Service/Web Site Maintenance
VRG needs a Jack or Jill of all trades with good science background, writing skills, and knowledge of vegetarian issues. Will research and write articles, respond to inquiries, answer e-mails, author books, maintain web site, develop computer-related outreach and e-commerce, answer phone, respond to media questions, and more. 3) VRG has intern openings. The job depends on your background, major, and interests. Tasks may include research, writing, and/or community outreach. Black Bean & Corn Chowder
(Serves 6)
15-ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained
15-ounce can diced tomatoes, or whole tomatoes, chopped
10-ounce box frozen corn kernels
small onion, finely chopped
2 cups soy milk or other non-dairy milk alternative
4 cups water
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
Heat all the ingredients together in a large pot over medium heat for 25 mintues. Serve warm.
Total calories per serving: 229; Fat: 3 grams; Total Fat as % of Daily Value: 5%; Protein: 11 grams; Iron: 2 mg; Carbohydrates: 34 grams; Calcium: 65 mg; Dietary Fiber: 6 grams; Sodium 299 mg.
7) Our health professionals, activists, and educators work with businesses and individuals to bring about healthy changes in your school, workplace, and community. Registered dietitians and physicians aid in the development of nutrition-related publications and answer member and media questions about vegetarian diets.
The Vegetarian Resource Group is a non-profit organization. Financial support comes primarily from memberships, donations, and book sales.
The Vegetarian Journal, a bi-monthly print magazine, is a benefit of membership in The VRG. The Journal features informational and recipe articles, product and book reviews, news for vegetarian activists, and up to date information about vegetarian health and nutrition.
