DIET FOR A GENTLE WORLD ? EATING WITH CONSCIENCE
By Les Inglis
Les Inglis, on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of the United States, is a vegetarian and an ardent animal lover. Diet for a Gentle World discusses how eating habits can affect your health and the environment. The book points out how diet is related to some diseases, examines today's factory farm systems, and explores environmental problems we all face today.
Although Diet for a Gentle World does not state that one must be a strict vegetarian, it certainly does present vegetarianism in a positive light and encourages readers greatly to reduce the amount of meat they consume. This book could have a great impact on friends who are not willing to become complete vegetarians, but may be willing to make some changes.
This book is now being promoted by The Humane Society of the United States. With their large membership, I hope that some non-vegetarian supporters will finally become vegetarian and truly demonstrate their love for all animals.
Diet For A Gentle World - Eating With Conscience (ISBN 0-89529-581-4) is published by Avery Publishing Group. The 144-page book costs $7.95.

LAUREL'S KITCHEN RECIPES
By Laurel Robertson, Carol Flinders, and Brian Ruppenthal
Readers of Vegetarian Journal may be familiar with the wonderful book Laurel's Kitchen. A new, shorter version of this book titled Laurel's Kitchen Recipes has recently been released by the same publisher Ten Speed Press.
The new version contains the same delicious recipes as the larger book and a special introductory section that lists The Vegetarian Resource Group as a good source for vegan information. What's missing in this version is the excellent, extensive vegetarian nutrition section. Also, in this edition, there are no nutritional breakdowns given for the recipes. However, if you enjoy the old Laurel's Kitchen, you may want to give friends this smaller and less expensive version as a gift.
Laurel's Kitchen Recipes (ISBN 0-89815-537-1) is published by Ten Speed Press and costs $10.95.
