NINTH ANNUAL VEGETARIAN FOOD FAIR BEING HELD IN TORONTO ? SEPT. 11-12, 1993
On the weekend of September 11-12, 1993, the Toronto Vegetarian Association will be hosting their annual Food Fair. Last year over 7,000 people gathered to explore the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. This year's free event will feature an international vegetarian cafe, a meat-less barbecue, an organic market with local produce, cooking demonstrations, exhibits, video presentations, children's activities, and musical entertainment. The event runs from 11AM to 8PM on Saturday and 11AM to 6 PM on Sunday. This is certainly a perfect time to visit beautiful Toronto.

IVY FOODS OFFERS EXCELLENT MEAT ALTERNATIVES
Thanks to all the Vegetarian Journal readers who wrote with additional suggestions for vegetarian burgers and hot dogs. Several people suggested canned products or burger mixes. We hope to review these in the future.

Grillers, made by Morningstar, were reported to taste good, although they contain a whopping 12 grams of fat per burger. Non-vegan ingredients in this product include both egg whites and calcium caseinate.

The most promising recommendation for a frozen or refrigerated burger, nutritionally speaking, was Ivy Foods' Wheat Meat Sun Burgers and Grilled Burgers, which are made with wheat gluten and brown rice. They have a lean 2 grams of fat per 3.5 ounce burger.

Ivy Foods had a very popular booth at the Natural Products Expo Anaheim, California. This extremely creative company set up a completely meatless market and vegetarian delicatessen to show natural-food-store owners and food service personnel how they can do the same. Ivy Foods is already testing its idea in university settings.
