3) THE VEGETARIAN RESOURCE GROUP HOSTS BOOTH AT WAVERLY FARMERS MARKET IN BALTIMORE CITY
The Vegetarian Resource Group had a booth at the Waverly Farmers Market on 32nd Street in Baltimore, Maryland. This event gave the organization an opportunity to engage with the community and provide resources and literature to those interested in vegetarianism and veganism.
As a VRG intern, I worked alongside another intern, Hannah Greene, and a volunteer, Certified Wellness Coach Marcy Schveibinz, to answer questions and represent the VRG to patrons of the Market. Many people expressed a desire to go vegetarian, or at least limit their meat consumption for health reasons. We were able to provide these visitors with a pamphlet detailing how to eat a heart-healthy vegetarian diet and explain that health is a common reason why people go vegetarian.
Some others conveyed that they were already vegetarian or vegan, but were interested in finding new recipes or events happening nearby. We offered them the Vegetarian Journal and suggested that they sign up for our newsletter to be notified of local events.
There were many children attending the Market with their parents. It was so much fun being able to offer the kids VRG's "I Love Animals and Broccoli Coloring Book" and see their reactions. One little girl was so excited about the coloring book that she started jumping up and down and hopped away from the booth with her parents.
The most rewarding part of the morning was when a woman approached the booth looking for resources for her and her granddaughter. The woman explained that her 9-year-old granddaughter was curious about going vegan and that the woman wanted to support her choice and provide vegan food and information for her. This interaction reminded me of when I became vegan at 10 and how concerned, but still supportive, my parents were. I was so excited to be able to help another young vegan on her way through the transition into this lifestyle.
Overall, the experience was very rewarding and I would be interested in hosting booths at other local markets and events in order to provide the community with information and encouragement towards vegetarian lives.

4) SUMMER OPPORTUNITY FOR TEENS
I am reaching out with an opportunity for the youth you work with. My name is Lillian Davis-Bosch and I work with a non-profit called Youth Empowered Action Summer Camp. We work to educate and empower young people to take action on a range of social justice issues. If interested, we have several spots left for both the Massachusetts and California camp! It is a week long program, where the teens will participate in workshops and activities to learn about social justice. They will then pick an issue that they are interested in and with a mentor write an action plan for what they wish to accomplish when they go home. The full tuition is $1,600 but we have many scholarships available and have never turned down a camper because of their financial situation.

8) VRG HIGHLIGHTS
Great Sage held a benefit day for VRG on Sunday, April 29th. The lines were out the door as people lined up for their vegan brunch options, and to support us as well. Great Sage is a wonderful all-vegan restaurant located in Clarksville, MD, which has always been very supportive of vegetarian and vegan causes.
For Earth Day, volunteer JoAnn Farb made a matching game based on the information provided in VRG's water brochure. Players would try to match water consumption levels to different food products. You can see more at: [ https://www.vrg.org/blog/2018/05/16/game-idea-for-veggie-outreach-using-information-from-vrgs-save-our-water-brochure/ ]
Dietetic interns from the University of Maryland visited the VRG office to learn about working with vegetarian and vegan clients. We sent each of them home with a stack of books to help! You can see just how many on our Instagram page at: [ https://www.instagram.com/vegetarianresourcegroup/ ]
A masters student from Greece asked us for statistics for his research on how to encourage young men to eat more plant-based diets.
We've sent brochures and leaflets, including the ever-popular My Vegan Plate, Teen Vegan Nutrition, Save our Water the Vegetarian Way, I Love Animals and Broccoli Coloring Book, Heart Healthy Eating Tips, and more to various organizations, institutions, and events across the country including schools, hospitals, and Earth Day events!
