EARTHSAVE NEWS & EVENTS
Govan's Presbyterian Church, Baltimore, MD
We're sad to report that a gas leak caused an explosion that destroyed much of the
shopping and office complex that houses one of our favorite restaurants in Columbia,
MD. Luckily, it happened in the early morning hours and didn't cause any injuries.
But the Mango Grove Restaurant will be closed until further notice, while repairs
are underway.
We have a wonderful venue for our Earthsave events - Govans Presbyterian Church is
in a quiet neighborhood, next to the historic Senator Theater on York Road in
Baltimore. The church parking lot is spacious, well lit, and conveniently located
near the entry to the Fellowship Hall, where you will see our large Earthsave
banner. Hope you will join us there soon!
You might also like to join one of the two discussion groups that Earthsave hosts at
local restaurants. Check out the Baltimore Vegetarian Meetup

and Baltimore Vegan Meetup group

vegan options. Open Tue-Sat 11:00 am-7:00 pm.

Don Robertson is founding director of the Baltimore chapter of Earthsave, a
volunteer-operated nonprofit that has been presenting monthly educational dinner
events since 1997. Earth save supports people taking their next step toward a
healthier, sustainable, peaceful way of eating and living. Don also hosts two
monthly discussion group meetings at restaurants and is active on Facebook, where he
co-hosts the popular support group Earth-Friendly Food Choices.

11) VRG HIGHLIGHTS
VRG volunteer Marcy Schveibinz gave a lunchtime talk on vegetarian nutrition to the
Maryland State Division of Rehabilitation Services on September 19th.
We sent over 1000 articles, brochures, flyers, and other materials to nutritionists,
private individuals, and activist groups trying to educate themselves and others on
veggie diets.
We ran tables at the Albany VegFest, the Charlottesville Vegan Roots Fest, and the
University of Buffalo Sustainability Fair.
Dietetic Intern Shannon Borgoyn worked part of her rotations (towards her RD
certification) in-office with VRG under the supervision of Reed Mangels, PhD, RD.
Reed Mangels, PhD, RD has been busy! Besides supervising interns, she gave a
presentation at the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition
Symposium titled 'Vegetarian Diets for Women: Benefits and Concerns.' She has also
given several interviews: one at Fitbit on vegan athletes, one with Nutrition Action
Healthletter about antinutrients, and one with The New York Times about vegan babies
and children.
