3) VRG HIGHLIGHTS

VRG volunteer Marcy Schveibinz gave a lunchtime talk on vegetarian nutrition to the Maryland State Division of Rehabilitation Services on September 19th.

We sent over 1000 articles, brochures, flyers, and other materials to nutritionists, private individuals, and activist groups trying to educate themselves and others on vegetarian and vegan diets.

We ran tables at the Albany VegFest in NY, the Charlottesville Vegan Roots Fest in VA, and the University of Buffalo Sustainability Fair in NY.

Dietetic Intern Shannon Borgoyn worked part of her optional rotation towards her RD in-office with us under the supervision of Reed Mangels PhD, RD.

Reed Mangels, PhD, RD has been busy! Besides supervising interns, she gave a presentation at the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition Symposium titled 'Vegetarian Diets for Women: Benefits and Concerns.' She has also given several interviews: one at Fitbit on vegan athletes, one with Nutrition Action Healthletter about antinutrients, and one with New York Times [ https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/24/health/vegan-parents-malnourished-baby.html ] about vegan babies and children.
