1) NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

February 20th is our yearly deadline for The Vegetarian Resource Group scholarship contest. Surprise surprise. Most students waited until February 20th to send in their applications. So this has been a very busy time. Thank you so much to Whitney, who volunteers to coordinate all our volunteer readers that read essay submissions. Kudos to Jill and Carole who came into the office to help. And thank you to all the readers! For more details about the annual VRG scholarship contest and to read past essays, go to [ https://www.vrg.org/student/scholar.htm ] Email us if you want to volunteer next year to be a reader of a few essays. We divide it up, so no one has to read hundreds. If you want to donate to our scholarships or internships, you can donate at [ https://www.vrg.org/donate ] Indicate it's for the scholarships and internships.

Thank you to our volunteers who staffed VRG booths at VegFests in Santa Cruz, California and Wilmington, North Carolina. If you are in the area, please come by our table at New England VegFest in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 9, 2024. Welcome to those who came by our booth at the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in April and signed up for the email newsletter. And thank you to VRG interns Carolyn and Danielle who did a VRG table at Maryland Loyola University Earth Day celebration.

4) VRG OUTREACH

VRG Nutrition Advisor Reed Mangels, PhD, RD, did a virtual vegetarian class for nutrition students at Univesity of Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State University.

Thank you to Vegan Journal editor Hannah Kaminsky who gave out Vegan Journals at Austin VegFest in Texas, and VRG Advisor Arnie Alper MD, who did a booth for us at the Santa Cruz VegFest in California.

If you are attending any of these conferences, please come by our booth and say hello.

Here's a great idea for outreach.
Gaia and Loki Restaurant [ https://www.gaiaandloki.com/ ] in Jersey City, New Jersey ordered several hundred of our Be Kind to Animals - Don't Eat Them bumper stickers. They are stapling them to all their takeout order bags. "Issuing bumper stickers for all our to go bags is a subtle way to invite our community to join us on our journey towards a vegan lifestyle and combat animal cruelty."

Welcome to Nadely, who will be returning as a VRG intern, and showing our new summer intern Akua the ropes. Thank you to our members who have provided housing. Here is Nadely reporting on her previous VRG epxerience. [ https://www.vrg.org/blog/2023/11/16/vrg-intern-nadely-requena-in-colorado/ ]
