VRG In the News

Nutrition Advisor Reed Mangels, PhD, RD, was interviewed about vegetarian athletes for www.USAToday.com, as well as for a story about vegetarian children for Southern Living magazine. Suzanne Havala Hobbs, DrPH, RD, was interviewed for a story about diets for winter skin care for Vegetarian Times magazine. Suzanne was also interviewed for a story in CNN Money about ways that heavier people can not only lose weight but save money by eating fewer processed, snack, and junk foods, all of which tend to cost more than whole, unprocessed alternatives.

VRG Outreach

VRG's Food Service Advisor Nancy Berkoff, RD, EdD, CCE, did a seminar at the Energy Resource Center of Southern California (gas company) on grains. The dietetic staff of Cedar Sinai Hospital attended. They showed great interest in VRG's Vegan in Volume (quantity cookbook) and said they would order a copy of the book from VRG's website.

VRG Presents at National Meetings

VRG Nutrition Advisor Suzanne Havala Hobbs, DrPH, RD, joined Margo Wooten, DSc, of the Center for Science in the Public Interest in presenting a session titled "The Impact of Interest Groups on Federal Food and Nutrition Policy Throughout the Lifecycle" at the annual meeting of the American Dietetic Association in Philadelphia. The Vegetarian Resource Group exhibited at the conference, which drew over 11,000 dietitians and health professionals, and distributed sample copies of Vegetarian Journal and vegetarian nutrition education materials. Suzanne also presented a session titled "The Influence of Interest Groups on Federal School-Meals Regulations, 1992-2011" at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association, held in Philadelphia. The session, part of a series of presentations on food and nutrition policy, was presented to a packed room of public health professionals, some of whom stood or sat on the floor.
