NOTES FROM THE VRG SCIENTIFIC DEPARTMENT
The Vegetarian Resource Group in the News
Vegetarian Resource Group Nutrition Advisor Reed Mangels, PhD, RD, was interviewed for Today's Dietitian about vitamin B12, for CafeMom about vegan pregnancy and feeding vegan infants, and for Family magazine about children who have chosen vegetarian diets and what parents should know.
VEGAN Outreach
VRG Food Service Advisor Nancy Berkoff, RD, EdD, CCE, went on a cruise with a Navy ship returning from Hawaii to Los Angeles. She was able to work with the food service specialists on board to incorporate vegan options into the available on-board foods and beverages.
Thank you to Elsa Spencer, PhD (nutrition) for staffing the VRG booth at the Charlottesville VegFest in September, 2014. Elsa was interviewed by one journalist student at the University of Virginia about VRG and her volunteering for VRG. A blogger from "Veggin' Out and About" took her picture and interviewed her.
The Vegetarian Resource Group gave information to over 120 dietitians and other health professionals who work in settings such as assisted living, continuum care communities, and correctional facilities. Institution staff generally cater to meat eaters, but dietitians gladly took information for a few vegetarian patients, relatives, and themselves.
